Privacy promise
Your voice stays in your house.
This is a commercial promise, not a paragraph in a policy nobody reads. It is the reason the system is built the way it is, and it is the thing we expect to be held to.
Your voice is understood at home
Speech is processed by a device sitting in the house. It is not recorded, and it is not sent overseas to be listened to by anyone or anything.
It works without the internet
Lights, locks, sensors and alarms keep doing their job when the connection drops. Nothing essential in the house waits on a server.
We never sell it and never train on it
What the system learns about your household is not a product. We are paid for the system, not for what it knows about you.
It is yours to take with you
You can export what the system holds, and you can delete it. Anything backed up is sealed so that we could not read it even if we wanted to.
Oversight is granted, not assumed
A carer or family member sees what the resident has agreed they can see, and the resident can withdraw it at any time.
Nothing acts without permission
Anything that costs money or has a consequence stays within permissions and limits you set, and is written into a timestamped record kept for review.
And it will never
- Put a camera in a bedroom or bathroom.
- Listen when you have not asked it to.
- Share what it knows with an advertiser.
- Change what any of this means without telling you.
The system is being designed to treat health and care information as sensitive information under Australian privacy requirements. A full privacy policy and the terms that sit behind these promises will be published before the product goes on sale.
About this website
Everything above is about the Smart U Home system in a home. This part is about the website you are reading now, which is a separate thing.
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read, so we know what is worth writing more of. It records the pages you look at, roughly which part of the world you are in, and what browser and device you are using, and it sets a cookie in your browser to do that. It does not tell us your name, and this data is handled by Google and may be stored overseas.
There is a chat button on every page. If you open it, the messages you type and the page you were on are sent to our own chat server at chatwoot.smartuhome.com.au — our infrastructure, not a third-party chat provider — and kept so we can reply. It sets a cookie in your browser so a reply can find its way back to the same conversation. Please do not type anything into it you would not put in an email.
None of it touches the system described above. That runs inside a home and is not connected to this website. If you would rather not be counted, Google publishes a browser add-on that turns it off, and most content blockers stop it as well.
